Oral-fluid samples for surveillance of commercial growing pigs for porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus and porcine circovirus type 2 infections

چکیده
Materials and methods: Oral-fluid and serum samples were collected from one barn on each of three PRRSV-infected finishing sites. Six pens per barn (20 to 30 pigs per pen) were sampled repeatedly, beginning when the pigs entered the facilities (3 weeks of age), and then at 5, 8, 12, and 16 weeks of age. Serum samples were tested using a commercial PRRS ELISA. Both serum and oral-fluid samples were tested for PRRSV by quantitative reversetranscriptase polymerase chain reaction (PCR), and oral fluids were tested for PCV2 by quantitative PCR.

Survey of porcine respiratory disease complex-associated pathogens among commercial pig farms in Korea via oral fluid method
Oral fluid analysis for herd monitoring is of interest to the commercial pig production in Korea. The aim of this study was to investigate pathogen-positive rates and correlations among eight pathogens associated with porcine respiratory disease complex by analyzing oral fluid samples from 214 pig groups from 56 commercial farms. Samples collected by a rope-chewing method underwent reverse-tran...
متن کاملThe use of oral fluids to monitor key pathogens in porcine respiratory disease complex
BACKGROUND The usefulness of oral fluid (OF) sampling for surveillance of infections in pig populations is already accepted but its value as a tool to support investigations of porcine respiratory disease complex (PRDC) has been less well studied. This study set out to describe detection patterns of porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV), porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2), s...
متن کاملComparison of four commercial one-dose porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) vaccines administered to pigs challenged with PCV2 and porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus at 17 weeks postvaccination to control porcine respiratory disease complex under Korean field conditions.
Under Korean field conditions, coinfection with porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) and porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) is most commonly observed in porcine respiratory disease complex (PRDC). Despite the wide use of PCV2 vaccination, PRDC remains a serious respiratory problem. Thus, the objective of this study was to determine and compare the efficacy of 4 one-dose PCV...
متن کاملEar necrosis syndrome in weaning pigs associated with PCV2 infection: A case report
Porcine necrotic ear syndrome (PNES) in pigs has been reported as an increasing health problem in many countries with intensive pig farming. The etiology of this disease is complex and the presumed triggering factors can be divided into infectious and non-infectious agents. The present report describes a case of Porcine Circovirus type 2 (PCV2), infection associated with lesions of PNES at the ...
متن کاملDevelopment and optimization of Multiplex- PCR for simultaneous detection of Porcine Pseudorabies Virus, Porcine Parvovirus, and Porcine Circovirus Type 2
Multiple infections by pathogens are currently the most serious problems in pig herds. Clinically, accurate diagnosis is difficult due to similarity of the symptoms of porcine pseudorabies virus (PRV), porcine parvovirus (PPV), and porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2). A multiplex polymerase chain reaction (multiplex-PCR) was developed and optimized for the simultaneous detection of the three DNA v...
